The El Segundo Fire Department has cancelled all Fire Department community outreach events until further notice. The action is taken as a precaution to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus. The City of El Segundo continues to cooperate with the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, the Centers for Disease Control and the El Segundo Unified School District to respond to the spread of the novel coronavirus in Los Angeles County. The El Segundo Fire Department, in conjunction with the El Segundo Planning and Building Safety Department, performs plan review services and inspections of new building construction in the City, including, new buildings and tenant improvements.

The Fire Department has the responsibility to review plans and perform inspections on new or modified:

  • Fire protection systems (fire alarm and fire sprinkler systems)
  • Battery storage systems and methane/vapor mitigation systems
  • Solar Photovoltaic Systems

All plans are processed through the El Segundo Planning and Building Safety Department.

Inspections

The El Segundo Fire Department is committed to improving public safety through the enforcement of building standards relating to fire and panic safety as adopted by the California Building Standards Commission and any other regulations that have been formally adopted by the City of El Segundo for the prevention of fire or the protection of life and property against fire or panic.

The El Segundo Fire Department inspects the following types of buildings:

  • Apartments
  • Condominiums/townhomes
  • Hotels

The frequency of inspections are based on type of building. Apartments, 5 units or more, condominiums/townhomes, and hotels are inspected annually for compliance with building standards and other regulations of the State Fire Marshal (Health and Safety Code ยง 13146.2).
